We had the Fresno Poet Laureate Aideed Medina, who is the City of Fresno Poet Laureate for the 2025–2027 term, recognized as a Pushcart Prize-nominated poet, spoken word artist, and playwright. She is the seventh person to hold this honorary position, which is designed to promote literacy and the arts throughout Fresno. Her work honors the labor, sacrifices, and spirit of farmworkers, often focusing on connection to the community and environment. Poet laureate is an honorary title given to an individual in a particular city, state, or nation. A committee reviews nominations and evaluates them according to the guidelines established by a City Council resolution. The position requires her to participate in four official city events in two years. She is also mandated to work with local schools to further the art of poetry in the city.She is the author of 31 Hummingbirds: A Suite of Poems (2023) and Segmented Bodies
